What to Expect

During your first visit, we will cover a wide variety of topics related to your health, even if they may not seem relevant (trust us-they are!). This will help us to see the whole picture and understand you as an individual. Following your health history, we will give you an acupuncture treatment. We use sterile, single-use needles that are very thin. About 17 of them could fit through the hypodermic needle used for drawing blood! You may not even feel them being inserted, but a mild dull sensation is normal. We will then leave you to rest for a brief period. Many people fall asleep as the acupuncture treatment is relaxing.

We recommend wearing comfortable and loose clothing so that you can relax during your treatment. We will generally need access to your forearms, abdomen and lower legs.

Eat a small snack before coming in and bring any relevant medical information or reports, as well as a list of supplements and medications you've taken recently.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese Herbal Medicine has been widely used in China for thousands of years and now, due to the efficacy of the practice, hundreds of millions of formulas are prescribed every year. Each formula is custom-made by our doctors to suit each individual's needs. This formula can change weekly as the patient's condition changes or as a woman's body goes through each week of her monthly cycle. This practice is more labor intensive, but yields faster, better and more sustainable results.

The vast majority of herbs we use are plant roots, barks, seeds and fruits.

We use the cleanest herbal products available on the market. They are FDA approved, certified free from heavy metals and pesticides. Dr. Andrea Low, a former pharmaceutical chemist, is familiar with the quality standards for medications in the U.S. and can attest to the quality and cleanliness of the herbs. She would be happy to address any questions you have.

Prop 65 Note: Some herbal products contain compounds known to the State of California to cause cancer and/or birth defects. We are required by law to notify the consumer. However, it should be noted that we use the highest quality herbal products available and they are tested to a purity standard that is higher than FDA requirements for pharmaceutical drugs.
